iOS 8 Compatibility : Which devices support iOS 8


Apple being a company doesn’t like experiments. If you give a look at Apple’s product lineup, you’ll notice Apple is very keen on following conventions. One of the conventioned followed by Apple is discontinuing iOS update to older devices.


Apple is set to release iOS 8 this year and users are curious to know whether or not  the upcoming iOS will be available on all devices. If you are one of those users, read on because in this article, we’ll discuss iOS 11 compatibility.

If industry sources are to believe, iPhone 4 is the only device that won’t get iOS update. We need to bear in mind Apple has recently stopped the sale of iPhone 4 in various countries. Some of these countries have emerging market there’s still demand for iPhone 4. In United States Apple stopped iPhone 4 sale right after the release of iPhone 5S.

Two devices have so far been dropped by Apple from the list of handsets which will receive iOS 11 update. Those devices are iPhone 4 and iPad.

Those who use iPhone 4 has a reason to feel disappointed. iOS 8 is rumored to arrive with heaps of new features such as Apple Map, Tips, TextEdit, iTunes Radio, Preview and Healthkit. But iPhone 4 users will miss out on them because their device will not lack iOS 8 compatibility. The features mentioned are really cool.

The upcoming Apple Map will offer an aerial view and could take on Google Map. The iTunes Radio will be a standalone application for downloading music. Users will be able to edit PDF files and images by using TextEdit.


The original iPad was launched in 2010. It was 4 years back and since then total of six iPad had been released by Apple. There’s a very small number of users in US who still use iPad. Bad news for them iPad won’t have iOS 8 compatibility. The iPad currently runs iOS 7.1.2. iPad users recently reported battery drain and Wi-Fi issues. Apple may have thought if iOS 8 update is given to iPad, user will face new issues.

Dispute regarding iPad 2

Apple earlier thought of removing iPad 2 from the list of devices that will get iOS 8 update. But Apple backed off later. All through 2013 iPad 2 had done an excellent business. In the first quarter of 2014 however, rumors started that iPad 2 will soon be discontinued. There’s demand for iPad 2 in emerging markets. May be for that reason Apple decided to give it the update.

The mysterious iWatch is a candidate for iOS 8 update. But there’s no information on when the device will release. The Healthkit system in iOS 8 will work with iWatch as users will brace it around their wrist and the Healthkit interface will track their pulse, heartbeat and other health related details.

Hopefully by the end of this year, we’ll get to know the release date of iWatch.
